Pentium 4: Bad idea.
Someone back me up on this, but the P4:
(1) lacks a decent sized L1 Cache,
(2) lacks a L3 cache, and
(3) would fail to give decent support to the Velocity Engine instructions of the G4.
Apple significantly incorporates the VE with their Apps (iMovie, FCP, iTunes, DVD Studio Pro, iCanGoOn...) including Mac OS X. By giving up the necessary L1 Cache you really concede the speed. I do agree that 800MHz vs. 2.8GHz does not make for fair play in the general consumer world, meaning what the average person sees listed on the box, but I don't agree that 800MHz vs. 2.8GHz is a big difference. At most, it may only be a 2x difference, but usually that comes from ********* up your computer with useless crap you'll hardly use. I'd guess, most of the time, it's close competition, but Apple (or someone) has to do a better job of advertising how Mac and PCs truly stack up, and people have to want to look at the stats, not just see them.

It's not the size as such, it's the aspect ratio and dpi.
a 22" 16:9 ratio monitor with a 1600 x 1024 resolution is going to be far easier on the eyes than a 20.1" 12:9 ratio monitor at 1600 x 1200, every 21" CRT I've ever used at 1600 x 1200 has seemed too high res to be confortable to stare at all day and I've dropped it down to 1280 x 960 to be bearable. That's a trinitron screen with an 85hz refresh rate aswell, not some bargain basement monitor either.
I know LCDs are going to suit some people more than others but if anything I'd still go for a 22" apple LCD over the formac if the prices were a little more in my range at least.
yeah but a 21' CRT does not have 20.1 viewable. You need to go for a 22' CRT to have 20 inches in screen room.
also if the 17' iMac can be 1440 by 900 then 1600 by 1200 wont kill the formacs vision with three extra inches.

That's not Steve's real e-mail address, his real one isn't public, and I'm sure never will be made public.
Nope, his 'work' email is sjobs@apple.com (mailto:sjobs@apple.com). When I worked at Apple, that's what he used to contact us. Other emails of interest...

I think they'll stick with letting Altivec handle SIMD operations and leave the INT cores alone (IMHO).
The Sony Playstation 2 currenty, "split carries," as you put it.

Scroll down to see some examples, then click on the link on the bottom to see more examples (Part IV, V, etc.). This should help you out.Button faces don't change in either Firefox or Safari, and in safari the input field backgrounds aren't even what is set (which does work in Firefox).

I had a Cube with a 15" Apple Studio LCD. You must upgrade to OS 9.2 if haven't yet. In the Energy Saver Control Panel there is now an option for disabling the button on the Cube. I forget what it's called exactly but you'll see it. You'll then have to turn the machine on and off with the monitor. This should work fine. They actually added this feature because of the problem between the Cube and the LCDs. Sorry if that's not the fix you need.

You should be able to ride an Amtrak train directly from Lancaster, since the store seems to be just north of the tracks. Since there is a SEPTA regional train there, it should be an easy ride for people from Philly and Micro Center in Radnor is pretty much right on the way, too. It was just off U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and the new Apple store is probably another 15 minutes west on the SEPTA train.
It's certainly cheaper than putting a store in the Philadelphia city limits.

In account of what has happened in the past, in Australia (No puns by request), when a product goes out of stock it may suggest that Apple is trying to run existing stock out to relace it with another newer or revised items.
Now the iPod has been out of stock for a while..

I'm not pleased with this development, because Apple's DRM is necessary to maintain the compromise they made with the record labels and allow the iTunes Music Store to exist in the first place. If the labels gets the jitters about how well Apple is controlling distribution, that threatens a good part of our "supply" of music, even though I wouldn't expect a large percentage of mainstream customers to actually use a program like PyMusique.
Will Apple be able to teach the iTunes Music Store to distinguish the real iTunes client from PyMusique with software changes only on the server side? If not, I imagine that only an iTunes update (which people would have to install) could stop the program from working.
Suppose iTunes is updated to use a new "secret handshake" with the iTunes Music Store in order to stop other clients from spoofing iTunes. Will iTunes have any way to distinguish tunes previously purchased through PyMusique from tunes acquired from other sources, i.e., ripped from CDs? Perhaps the tags identify them as coming from iTMS and iTunes could apply DRM after the fact. Then again, tags can be removed.

Is the 9000 Pro just more memory than the 9000? Why did apple replace the 8500 on the old machines if the 9000 is slower? Also, wasn't the GF4MX the chip above the 8500 in the Quicksilvers?
Thanks

I don't think we will see a "G4 iBook" until the TiBook get's a major upgrade. Why?? if the iBook had a G4 it would compete against the TiBook think about it 700Mhz iBook G4 $1699.00 Vs.TiBook 800Mhz $3500. Would 100Mhz be worth over $2000??

That's a good move, I don't like leaviing the PowerBook on 24/7. I've been thinking about picking up a Mac Mini as an A/V server for the house, and I could stick BT on that and let it get on with it... :D

if yes, get a cable and plug it in
also if it has a HDMI input, get a DVI to HDMI converter. or if you have VGA in your plasma use the converter that came with your MBP

To modify/enlarge the iMac base, they would need to redesign the interior. It will take a while to do this. Maybe Jan.03 feat. 19" along with other upgrades?
